Caring for Wool when Pilling

• What is wool pilling? Pilling is a natural and unavoidable phenomenon in products made from wool fibers. Pilling occurs when small, fuzzy balls form on wool clothing and items subjected to a certain amount of wear and tear, including friction or repeated rubbing. Pilling is NOT a sign of inferior wool; in fact, it is quite the opposite. The more loosely a yarn is spun, the more luxurious it tends to be, which gives the fibers more opportunity for friction and, consequently, pilling.
  
  
• How do I remove pills?

1. Care by hand Caring for your garment by hand is actually quite meditative – how about a session of mindful de-pilling! You can do this either continuously whenever you notice pills, or after washing.
2. Care by comb Use a simple sweater comb, sometimes called a "wool comb" or "cashmere comb." These are easy to use but can be a bit tricky depending on the brand. If you choose this method, follow the instructions carefully.
3. Care by electronic handheld devices The third option is our top choice: get an electronic handheld "de-piller" or "fabric shaver." This is the fastest, easiest, and most reliable way to remove pilling and keep your wool clothing in top shape!
