Esther loves everything that can fly

I don’t know why, but I love everything that can fly. I love birds, especially big ones, but also the small ones. I often wear high heels, just because I want to see from the bird‘s perspective. It feels wonderful to walk around and see everything from a bird’s eye view. When I was a child, I often dreamed that I could fly. What a fantastic dream. Some people call me estherbird or black bird.

This past year I had an incredible experience with a beautiful butterfly.

It was a few weeks before the series „Making The Cut'' started to air. I had bought some vegetables and some other things I needed for the week to come. A few days after, I wanted to cook myself a nice, small dinner, and when I opened the fridge, there was a light yellow butterfly sitting on my vegetables.

At first I felt so sorry, I thought that it was my fault that he was in this ice cold prison. But most likely he came as a caterpillar on my vegetables and had his beautiful transformation in my fridge. So right away I put him in a glass next to the open window in my bedroom. Hours later he was still there and in the morning as well. I left the window wide open when I left, but when I returned later he was still there, however in a slightly different spot. Again I left the window open the whole night. Nothing happened. In the morning I decided to help him. I put him on a paper and gently blew him out the window into the courtyard. It worked. He flew and flew and I was so happy to see him fly, waving to him goodbye. He flew around the big tree while I watched, following him with my eyes. He made it around the tree but then came back and sat right in front of me on the window sill. I was so surprised and at the same time so touched that I had tears running down my cheeks. This was an incredible moment.

The moment in my life was not an easy one. It was shortly before the series “Making The Cut“ aired. I didn’t know what to expect and I didn’t know what my future would look like after this, I just knew that things were going to change.

That moment with the butterfly felt like this little friend wanted to share the transformation with me. So I said to him (yes I do speak to plants and animals, no matter the size):  “Ok dude, you are welcome to share my apartment, but you have to pay rent and you have to sit down on the toilet.”

He stayed for another two weeks. Whenever I came home he was sitting somewhere else. I took care of him, feeding him with honey and water. The last few days he was sitting under my bed, right where my head normally lays. Like he was watching over my dreams. And there he stayed until he moved no longer. I kept him and  framed him as I always wanted to remember this beautiful story. This little fellow reminds me every day that I can do it, I can transform and that it is worth believing that dreams can come true.
